My wife uses a PC and started getting this message when trying to sync her iPhone with Outlook on her computer. Support for syncing contacts and calendars has been deprecated and will be removed in a future version of iTunes.
Is there a work around?

Switch to syncing via iCloud, or don't upgrade iTunes when whichever build actually removes this feature is released. Unfortunately Apple haven't indicated which build that will be.

As stated above, sync that info using iCloud, or sync from whatever other (CalDAV and CardDAV) service that that Outlook app is configured and sync'd with.
Support for syncing contacts and calendars has been deprecated and will be removed in a future version of iTunes.
