Mac App Store notification badge

Were badge counts removed from the Mac App Store icon in the dock by an update and I just wasn't paying attention? When I have Apps available to update the only way to know is to look in the Apple menu under App Store. The red badge will not appear on the icon and show the number of updates available.

After a deep internet search, it seems I'm the only one that cares or finds them useful as all results were from people trying to REMOVE App Store notifications.

I would like to have the badge icon on the Mac App Store icon show if possible in Big Sur. I already know that the store isn't available in the Notification Preferences menu to edit. Is there another way to enable the badge on the App Store? I know I didn't intentionally remove it, as I find it useful. If it was removed it must've either been by an update or unknown collateral damage from another change I made.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 11.6

If it is a corrupt plist you can try deleting it— rebuild the defaults automatically.

From Finder>Go>Go To Folder, copy and paste:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.preferences.softwareupdate.plist

reboot the computer.

I´ve been having the same issue since Big Sur 11.5. I just tried what leroydouglas kindly suggested...still no badge count on the App Store dock icon, unfortunately, and I do have 3 apps waiting to be updated! It's not a huge deal for me, more of a minor inconvenience. I´ll be interested to hear if you manage to solve this issue! Cheers, Ian.

I can add— I never do automatic updates, check yes.

I don't look at the icon in the Dock— so I have nothing of value here one way or the other.
