Compressed (zip) file not recognized

I recently compressed 2 pdf's using my iMac's 'Compress files' feature and attached the resulting zip file to an email sent to 4 people. One was using a Mac, one a Chromebook, and two are using Windows.

The Mac user had no problem but the other 3 could not open the file, which was about 5MB in size. Any ideas why this happened?

Since updating to 12.0 most of the time the pdf's I drag from an email to desktop become non functioning files? NOTE: I copied this question from someone who posted it in December, but the thread was closed without any answer of value. Since upgrading to 12.0 OS, most of the time when I drag a pdf from an email to my desktop, they become strange non-usable files. This has NEVER happened before. Is there anyway to avoid this? I tried all of the basic troubleshooting steps including booting into safe mode; and YES I KNOW about the Save As Attachment workaround, but I would prefer to drag and drop the attachments as I have been doing for more than a decade.

File compression / Zip error: Couldn’t communicate with a helper application I have successfully used the Compress function on a number of files recently, but have encountered a problem doing it with two large ones. (One of these is a folder containing several files.) The process starts and seems to go smoothly for a some hours, but then failed with this Zip error message: "Couldn’t communicate with a helper application." Help! Any suggestions on how to address this problem? The file is a little under 90GB in size.

Compressed Files on Mac are larger than the original! I am trying to compress some files on my MacBook Air (2017), and when I "compress" the files, they are ending up larger! For example, the original file was 19.6MB and the zip file is 20.1MB. I'm confused and unsure why this is happening, but I need the files to be zipped to post them onto my Etsy page; the limit is 20MB files!

Regardless of system, each recipient has to have an app that opens your type of compression scheme. For that reason, I always use 7Zip as its free and available for pretty much any platform.
