Apple Music does not convert wav to aac on import automatically

I tried to import songs to apple music and I was hoping they would be converted from wav to aac to save space, but nothing happens. They stay as a wav file. What did I do wrong? Do I really have to convert them manually and delete the wav files again?

Pete,

That "Import Using" field is (and has always been) confusingly named. It only applies for CD ripping and for conversions. It does not do anything when you simply add a file to your library.

If you want to create an AAC version of a WAV file, follow the steps in this guide:

Convert a song to a different file format with the Apple Music app or iTunes for Windows – Apple Support (UK)

After you have the AAC, you can either keep or delete the WAV original.
