Default download location for WhatsApp

It's been a while since I am trying to find a solution for this problem/preference. Whenever I try to download anything from the native WhatsApp application for mac, the files go directly to my computer's download folder. However, when I use the whatspp web on any browser, (e-g chrome or firefox or even safari) it gives and option to choose the destination folder. I contacted whatsapp about it and they replied saying

'The location of WhatsApp and all WhatsApp content is determined by the device. WhatsApp has no way to delegate where it’s stored and there’s no option to choose where to save media in the device.'

So my question is that, is there any way I can change the default download location within the mac settings or something? it really annoys me that I have to use whatsapp on a browser where there is an app for it.
