When your iPhone goes in for service, it may need to be restored. Backing up your personal data is something iPhone users are responsible for. Here are some ideas which may help, if you aren't able to access your iPhone 8.
If you used iCloud Photos on your iPhone 8, you may find the photos at the iCloud website. You can check by logging in with the Apple ID used with that iPhone, and check in Photos. If you find the photos there, you can export them to your computer to keep them safe:
Archive or make copies of the information you store in iCloud
After your iPhone 8 is repaired, signing back into your Apple ID at Settings and turning iCloud Photos back on, will sync your photos back to your iPhone.
Set up and use iCloud Photos
If you did not use iCloud Photos, then you can check if you have a backup of your iPhone 8 to restore to:
