cannot shut down

Finder is in a loop, trying to move some documents to Trash. Any attempt to Shut Down results in, cannot shut down because something is running. Within Finder an Activity Monitor, I cannot find what to shut down.

Unable to close Trash Finder window Recently I was emptying my Trash and a small Finder Window will not close. It doesn't change (it's been at least a week) and the small "x" to the right of the blue line doesn't close the window either. If I click on Trash and Open it, it appears empty. But if the 25,317 Items that show in the above Finder Window are still on the external drive then it is taking up space on the external drive it was deleted from...I think. Any idea on how I can close out this window since there isn't a red X in the top left corner of the window? Thanks Andy

Finder delays 3 seconds to open files (Double-Click or Cmd+O) My Finder shows a certain delay when opening files (e.g., Double-clicking or ⌘O). When I double-click to open, it takes several seconds before the flickering feedback of the file icon and the launch of the corresponding app. However, when using open <filepath> from the terminal, the file is immediately opened as usual. I already tried to: Use a new account Enter safe mode Clear finder preferences files (plist) Does anyone know what could be happening?

Trash will not empty. I end up with a window full of indeterminate progress bars I'm using Ventura 13.2.1 (22D68) on an Intel MBP, with plenty of RAM and disk space available however, often, when I delete a file with Command+Delete, I end up with a window full of indeterminate progress bars (pic attached). I've waited over 12 hours for these, hoping if I give enough time, they will be cleared. I could restart Finder which can fix the issue, but is that the best way? Will the files actually get deleted or the trash get emptied? Why does this keep happening? I have no other apps that appear to be running and no other users on the system.

Force shut down the computer by holding the power button until it shuts down. This may take 10-20 seconds.

Restart but hold the shift key, keep holding it down until you get the login screen. This is Safe Boot, it can take 10 minutes or more as the computer does some self repairs.

After logging in, the computer will be sluggish in Safe Mode. Verify that the endless loop is gone. Then reboot normally. See if the computer is back to normal.
