Would like tips on how to Scribble in Messages text area

I recently purchased a 2nd gen Apple Pencil which is paired to my 12.9” iPad Pro. Im getting used to the Scribble feature which really works well in large text field areas like Notes or apps which provide a larger area to work with. For simple form fields or url bars I know those are for simple input so I don’t worry about those too much. My issue is with handwriting in Messages. Even though the text area expands a bit once you start writing it’s still such a small space. Im not writing novels here but some texts have more to say than others. In addition the physical writing area is in the very lower right hand corner of the screen which is a difficult area to write in, regardless if it’s an iPad or simple spiral notebook. So I’m wondering if there’s a way to make the writing area bigger or if you have tips on making this easier. Thank you!

If on iPadOS 15, another option if you want a bigger area to write on and don't want to be confined to the bottom right of the screen is to use Quick Notes. Swipe up from the bottom right of the screen to open a Quick Note. Write your message, then copy and paste the converted text into the text field of Messages. When not in use you can drag the Quick Note out of the way off the edge of the screen by grabbing the handle at the top.

Hi v6v6v6, the most important feature of Scribble to know is that your handwriting can extend beyond the edges of the text field.

Other suggestions:

  • If you haven't already, navigate to Settings > Apple Pencil > Try Scribble to practice the basic gestures for text manipulation.
  • For stability and comfort try laying your iPad on a horizontal surface such as a desk or table.
  • Hold your Apple Pencil with a loose grip with your hand further away from the tip.
  • With your forearm resting on a horizontal surface, place something under your hand as a palm rest.
