iPhone 13 not automatically connecting to car bluetooth

I recently got a iPhone 13 mini, which I restored from a backup of my iPhone 8. I connected the new phone to the bluetooth in my car (2011 Subaru Forester if that matters) with no problem, but have noticed that every time I get in and start the car it does not connect automatically. I have to go into bluetooth settings on the phone and manually push the 'CAR MEDIA' to get it to pair again. My iPhone 8 never had this issue, and would connect automatically each time.

I've tried restarting the phone, turning bluetooth on and off, and deleting and re-pairing the device to no avail. Very frustrating. Any ideas?

I believe I've solved this issue. I deleted the device from the car's memory, and the car from the the bluetooth list on my phone. I then paired the phone using the voice commands instead of the buttons, and now it seems to pair automatically.

I've had same problem with iPhone13 and my 2011 Kia Sportage, never had problem with iPhone8 Plus before my 13.

I tried deleting and re-adding phone the "normal" way and once that kept it connecting even after initial pairing for a few days but then started failing 100% of time. Once it started failing, there was no way to fix it other than deleting phone from car, deleting car from phone and starting all over. I gave up and went old school and connected my iPhone13 to car's AUX jack.

I just now tried the pair it from the steering wheel "push to talk" button and will update in a few days if its fixed the issue or not.

I also have this problem. My Iphone 13 is no longer automatically connect to my 2016 Hyundai Tucson Multimedia. I deleted and repaired from both the phone and the device numerous time sbut unless I manually connect from the phone i cannot use it with the car hands free. (Which is a driving risk to try to do it manually from the phone)

At first I thought it was the multimedia unit but today I found out my Jabra Elite 25 headset shows the same reaction. Keeps saying "no device connected". Both were working flawlessly with my Iphone 7 Plus. I think Apple definately needs to get this sorted out as now there are over 900 reported incidents since Nov 2021 and today is April 2022.

How much longer or how many other victims does it take to realise there is a problem to fix on Apple's side.

I am having the same issue. I have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. I purchased an iPhone 13 Pro Max recently and paired it with my car. Now every time I turn my car on my phone will not pair. I have to delete the phone from my Bluetooth in my car & also forget the device on my phone then repair. I don’t have time to do this every time I get in my car.

I’m having a similar issue. I have a 2010 BMW X5 and my new IPhone 13 Pro won’t connect to my car stereo properly.

it’s not an issue with my car stereo because I have my IPhone 11 connected and it connects and works perfectly.

The similar issue I’m having to others on this post is that it doesn’t seem to connect automatically to the car stereo as quickly, but I find that it eventually does. What’s very strange is that even when it shows the symbol on the stereo to show that it’s connected, if I start a call it doesn’t trigger the car system and just calls through the phone. To make things more annoying, after I’ve been on a call for around 1-2 mins, it triggers the car system and switches to car stereo. When it does this however the signal is TERRIBLE, and keeps cutting out like it has no reception, but when I switch back to my phone the reception is fine.

I went into the apple store today to try and resolve the issue and they did a full software/network reset, deleted my car Bluetooth connection from my phone, and told me to repair my freshly restored phone with my car. The issue has not been fixed.

Can you please tell me how to fix this problem?

In my case it's a Subaru Forester 2013, but in every other respect I have the same problem with my new iPhone 13 pro. In each case, on the car, I have to choose my phone manually and select it, even though there is only one blue tooth connection on both the car and the phone to choose from. It wasn't like that since I had my previous iPhone 7 from new.

This makes it look like a car problem but the only thing that has changed is the phone so it must be something that Apple has not worked out properly with the car manufacturers... lots of them if you read through this chain!

@fernbird

Thank you for this Christmas present! I think it just worked on my 2013 Subaru Forrester here in the UK... subject to checking next time I go for a drive round.

Mind you, I'm not sure if it's because of the different year, or the Right Hand Drive, or the UK spec, but my menus are not exactly the same as Nick showed in your car. I had to use a combination of pushing buttons and Voice commands to get to the menus Nick found but I worked through it with the handbook and every time there was a voice command option I used it.

I have turned everything off, including the phone and then turned it all on again a minute later and it seems to be ok! I could make a hands free phone call via Siri with the audio off and that's what bothered me most.

Thanks again.

Andy
