iPhone 13 not automatically connecting to car bluetooth

I recently got a iPhone 13 mini, which I restored from a backup of my iPhone 8. I connected the new phone to the bluetooth in my car (2011 Subaru Forester if that matters) with no problem, but have noticed that every time I get in and start the car it does not connect automatically. I have to go into bluetooth settings on the phone and manually push the 'CAR MEDIA' to get it to pair again. My iPhone 8 never had this issue, and would connect automatically each time.

I've tried restarting the phone, turning bluetooth on and off, and deleting and re-pairing the device to no avail. Very frustrating. Any ideas?

I believe I've solved this issue. I deleted the device from the car's memory, and the car from the the bluetooth list on my phone. I then paired the phone using the voice commands instead of the buttons, and now it seems to pair automatically.

With my 1st gen iPhone SE the BT autoconnect worked with iOS 15.2. Then I moved to a new iPhone 13 mini and updated to 15.2.1. I paired the mini with the car, but after re-entering the car the next day, it does not connect to BT automatically.

Very interesting is the fact, that my Bluetooth speaker has the same behavior. With the iPhone SE it connected automatically, but with the new iPhone 13 mini I had to connect manually to get it working. Important is, I had not to pair it again.

Hopefully, the problem will be solved in one of the next iOS versions.

Same problem others are seeing. 2009 Mini Cooper - phone says it’s connected but it’s not. Will work intermittently. 2002 BMW 5 series - same issues as the mini. 2017 Toyota Highlander- works fine. The other issue is even if using AirPod Pros, phone keeps jumping to the car saying it’s connected to mini and bmw but not working at all.

Clearly issues with older Bluetooth profiles.

Hoping apple fixes this soon.

15.3.1 update is a bit better. It will intermittently connect during calls. It still sometimes shows connected but does not function. It also will not stay connected to my airpod pro earphones in the car- when I used this as an alternative, it will randomly disconnect, show connection to the vehicle, but not function with the vehicle. Works fine on a 2017 Highlander. Issues are with 2012 BMW 5 series and 2009 Mini Cooper.

Still needs to be fixed...

Similar to MANY other iPhone 13 users, I am able to initially connect my phone through Bluetooth to my 2009 Hyundai Genesis but it does not automatically reconnect the next time I turn on my car. I have had five different phones from three different manufacturers work properly on this car. I contacted Apple support and they told me it is a Hyundai problem. Awful response from what is supposed to be a high technology company!

Hi, I have the same issue: iPhone SE 2020 and Jabra elite 65t earphones are NOT connecting automatically. I have to always initiate Bluetooth connection manually.

software: I have updated firmware / software for both of them. I noticed that problem started around the time of iOS15 update. My devices didn’t have such problem before.

troubleshooting: I tried all recommended solutions: restart Bluetooth, forget Bluetooth connections, repair Bluetooth connections: constant update of firmware for both devices. No improvement.

Apple team, can you pls take care of it?

I recently purchased an iPhone 13.

I can coin ect my phone via Bluetooth and use the phone no issues.

I cannot however get it to connect using a USB cable to play music

my daughters iPhone 12 connects no problems at all as soon as she plugs in the USB lead

Not a very good experience for my first iPhone I have always had an android and am thinking I should just go back to using my Samsung and out this in the drawer!!!

I have the same issue. iPhone 13 mini, Subaru Forrester 2015. Previously had an iPhone 8 which paired automatically when I started driving. Now I have to go into the car's menu settings and pair the bluetooth manually every time. Very frustrating if you do a lot of driving and use your phone as your main audio device in the car. Apple, please help!
