iPhone 13 not automatically connecting to car bluetooth

I recently got a iPhone 13 mini, which I restored from a backup of my iPhone 8. I connected the new phone to the bluetooth in my car (2011 Subaru Forester if that matters) with no problem, but have noticed that every time I get in and start the car it does not connect automatically. I have to go into bluetooth settings on the phone and manually push the 'CAR MEDIA' to get it to pair again. My iPhone 8 never had this issue, and would connect automatically each time.

I've tried restarting the phone, turning bluetooth on and off, and deleting and re-pairing the device to no avail. Very frustrating. Any ideas?

I believe I've solved this issue. I deleted the device from the car's memory, and the car from the the bluetooth list on my phone. I then paired the phone using the voice commands instead of the buttons, and now it seems to pair automatically.

I have the same issue with my mini cooper. It will connect automatically for a little bit but loss it after a few days. If I try to connect it manually I get a message saying it can't connect. I also have an alexa auto insulated and it connect automatically with that fine. My old iPhone X would connect to both with no issues. I can get it to work again for a few days if I delete and forget the car and re-pair it but it doesn't seem to hold

I'm also having issues with other bluetooth devices like my JBL speaker not connecting when they are powered on. This device has been rock solid for years with my prior iphones - every time it connects without exception. Now, I turn it on and nothing happens until I go into settings and manually connect to it. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the iphone 13 or with ios 15 but please fix this. Thanks.

Showing pairing,(pretend pairing ) since it’s really not connected to car stereo

you manually put your phone on speaker it forces it’s back to the car stereo ….you put back to speaker…. It forces itself back to your car stereo….not once does your music stop and your call get patched through.

the phone does show that it is connected to your cars Bluetooth the person calling you is getting dead air until you force it to speaker and the you can talk for 1 min and it force sinks back to car stereo

just a vivacious cycle

and on a rare few occasions incoming call ….it works perfectly….. outgoing call … works perfectly

I’ve trying deleting the entire pairing on the car and phone multiple times

restores etc …..

pls fix this asap!!!!!! It is dangerous and super inconvenient .

If this list is a quasi bug tracker used by Apple, I would like to register my case also in the hope it gets fixed soon by Apple.

My iPhone 13 also doesn’t connect automatically to 2014 version of Ford Sync. Manual connection initiated from the Ford panel never succeeds, if I initiate connection from the iPhone from settings/bluetooth, it works sometimes but not always

Hey all,

I have a positive update for this thread. I was recently contacted by someone from Apple, they are asking me to send them a video of the issue happening on my car along with a time-stamped data log of the phone....so, it looks like they are taking this seriously and trying to figure out a bug fix. Hopefully a new update will resolve the problem!

Thanks everyone for your input; I think it helped create a critical mass for Apple to respond to.

similar issue. I have a 2016 toyota tacoma and i have went thru multiple times and disconnected everything, shut every thing off, repaired the devices, etc. The phone will pair up (my vehicle has in the settings an option to automatically connect or i can opt to manually connect every time) I selected auto pair.

i can get it paired and then be driving down the road and it will disconnect, if i am on the phone it will drop the call and not allow me to disconnect, it just stays on the vehicle screen like It’s connected. When it does finally shut off, nothing will re-connect not the phone or the music.

Same thing is happening to me. Just upgraded from an X to a 13 Pro. My phone will not connect to CarPlay automatically. I have a non factory model pioneer receiver that I added to my car a little over a year ago. My old phone would connect automatically and worked like a champ. Now I have to mess with it for an extended period of time to get CarPlay to pull up.
