iPhone 13 not automatically connecting to car bluetooth

I recently got a iPhone 13 mini, which I restored from a backup of my iPhone 8. I connected the new phone to the bluetooth in my car (2011 Subaru Forester if that matters) with no problem, but have noticed that every time I get in and start the car it does not connect automatically. I have to go into bluetooth settings on the phone and manually push the 'CAR MEDIA' to get it to pair again. My iPhone 8 never had this issue, and would connect automatically each time.

I've tried restarting the phone, turning bluetooth on and off, and deleting and re-pairing the device to no avail. Very frustrating. Any ideas?

I believe I've solved this issue. I deleted the device from the car's memory, and the car from the the bluetooth list on my phone. I then paired the phone using the voice commands instead of the buttons, and now it seems to pair automatically.

Yeah. Not only sync every time but remember to do it before you set off, because the car won't let you set the phone while driving. Just hope you find somewhere to stop before you get your first phone call.

And don't stall the car! Otherwise you'll have to find somewhere else to stop! (I don't often stall the car, but this happened to me the other day... I'm not sure which made me swear more: stalling or stopping for the phone!!)

Same problem here. But not with 13, I have SE2. It was working fine for almost a year, few weeks back I started to have similar issue. My phone does not automatically connect to previous paired devices. I have Peugeot 308 2017 and Peugeot 3008 2020, phone does no longer connect to ether of them. Even initiation for connection does not work from ether car, it have to be connected from phone side. My wife's Samsung work flawlessly on both cars.

Also my Jabra 75 headset does not automatically connect anymore...

Here’s an update! I sent in a video of my issue to apple on Tuesday!

I’m going to have to go back to my cracked up Xr . I wish i would have saved my money and just got my screen fixed on my Xr . I don’t believe it is understood to what extent , how dangerous this can become. For some of us this is not only about the music portion. Our new phones are dangerous/unreliable in our cars.

no compensation, no results. Just Enjoy your loss of money and service with your upgrade! I must say I’m really disappointed overall with my iPhone 13.

Hopefully no one get in a serious collision due to this issue.

I tried the phone in the car again this morning and it's definitely still automatically connecting in my 2013 Subaru Forester. It's always worked with no problem in my wife's 4 year old Hyundai i10

This suggests that Apple changed something in the Bluetooth of the iPhone 13 which stops it working properly with some cars. Some, like the Subaru, have a work around and some others haven't been found yet... at least on this chain.

The easiest thing Apple can do it to go back to whatever Bluetooth settings it had on in the iPhone 7 (my previous one) and everyone will be happy.

I bought my new phone for the camera and I must say the new camera is amazing!! It won't replace the several £k worth of Canon cameras and lenses I have for anything special, but as an aways-in-my-pocket camera it can't be beaten!

I had no problem pairing my new iPhone 13 to my Chevy Suburban, but like everyone else I have to manually connect it every time I get in the car which I simply don't remember to do, because it's a pain and my 7 connected immediately no problem. I don't use it for CarPlay but I do use it for phone calls and super frustrating to have phone calls come in and not automatically ring in on Bluetooth through the car.

Hi,

An update on my post above. The phone is still working in the car and reconnects automatically when I set it up as described.

However, it has now gone back to an old problem that Apple fixed in update 14.6 in May and June last year: When using maps (Apple or Google) with voice directions it misses the first couple of seconds of the directions when establishing the bluetooth and connecting to the car. So instead of saying "In 300 yds turn left" all you hear is "... turn left" which could be 300 yds, half a mile or six miles!! That chain was called "[Using iPhone] - iPhone 7 Google maps delay on bluetooth" but applied to many versions of iPhone

I hope Apple can fix this quickly. The last problem took months of posts like this before it got fixed and I can't face it all again.

I’m not sure if this is related, but In addition to this same issue with not connecting to the BT in my car, there is another issue with SIRI which I’ve noticed from trying to find a work around for using my phone hands free in my car.

when I say “Hey SIRI, call “XXXX” on speaker”, SIRI replies with “calling “XXXX” on speaker”, then commences with the call, however it does not engage speaker.

These software technical issues are incredibly dangerous, because they are forcing me to handle my phone while driving.

Can others on this thread please test Siri to see if they are also experiencing the same issue to see if they’re related.

My phone says it is paired and I can pair it manually in the car but it doesn’t work through the car microphone or speakers. I don’t even try to call out using my phone in the car anymore and if I get a call it goes directly to my phone where I can use the phone’s speaker and shout at the caller…hoping they can hear me while I’m driving. It’s a dangerous situation.

We have the exact same problem :/ I now panic a little when my phone rings in the car lol

i haven’t heard from apple since my last update. ( I sent video of what it does)

today I tried deleting and resetting everything no change.

im Not sure it’s understood how dangerous and unreliable this really is.

it might work / it might not (most of the time)

So…I spent 2 hours today with a Volvo mechanic who was trying to identify a work-around (trained in Sweden, many years of working on Volvos). In addition to the Bluetooth connection problems discussed on this thread, he told me that on the brand new Volvos there is an iPhone charger built into the console and that the iPhone 13 will not connect to charge. He also said Apple increased their encryption on the new phones so they are even more difficult to (hack?) access and since that software (hardware?) change we’ve had these problems. Strange that Apple acts as though this is a new complaint when I’ve called.
