iPhone 13 not automatically connecting to car bluetooth

I recently got a iPhone 13 mini, which I restored from a backup of my iPhone 8. I connected the new phone to the bluetooth in my car (2011 Subaru Forester if that matters) with no problem, but have noticed that every time I get in and start the car it does not connect automatically. I have to go into bluetooth settings on the phone and manually push the 'CAR MEDIA' to get it to pair again. My iPhone 8 never had this issue, and would connect automatically each time.

I've tried restarting the phone, turning bluetooth on and off, and deleting and re-pairing the device to no avail. Very frustrating. Any ideas?

I believe I've solved this issue. I deleted the device from the car's memory, and the car from the the bluetooth list on my phone. I then paired the phone using the voice commands instead of the buttons, and now it seems to pair automatically.

I gave pairing with the "push-to-talk" on my steering wheel; it gave me three options about making a call but didn't connect to the phone. I tried deleting the pairing which was equally ineffective except now there is was no paired device. Maybe I've misunderstood what you're saying. After being contacted by customer support on a few occasions the Apple conclusion is that my stereo is broken. Apparently a motorolla phone and three earlier Iphone models (from 5-X) couldn't flush out this glitch, but thankfully, the new Iphone 13 Pro could.

The new update didn't change anything.

Same issue. 2012 Subaru STi, iPhone 13 Pro. I can setup the Bluetooth connection and the car seems to remember the phone, but I need to manually establish a connection every time I turn the ignition on. Very annoying! All previous iPhones, including 7 and XS, connected automatically every time. I’ve deleted the phone from the car and car from the phone, tried several times, and tried everything in his thread with no luck. Please help!

Hi EveryoneElse.

It's more than just using the 'Push to talk' button. If I tried to remember all the instructions I'd get it wrong: it's best to look in your handbook and follow the instructions there, once you've found them! Some, but not all of the instructions, involve using 'push to talk'.

Mine (iPhone 13, latest software, Subaru Forester 2013) does work now but whether it's related to this or not I've now got back an old problem that got fixed by Apple last year after a chain of posts at least as long as this one: -

When using Apple or Google maps without a previously established Bluetooth connection (e.g. if you're already listening to music through your phone) it cuts off the first three words of voice instructions because it starts talking before the Bluetooth connection is established! That's even more annoying and dangerous than this problem!!

The bottom line is that both these problems may involve a large number of people but as a % of Apple customers they are relatively few, so Apple just won't prioritise fixing them. They have our money already and know that most of us are completely locked in to Apple products without going through much more hassle than even these problems cause us.

In response to all - Nothing works for my bmw335i 2013. Software is up to date on car and iphone 13 Pro (ios15.4). Deleted all phones on my car and now I cannot even pair my phone with my car using the USB, even though the car can see that the device is there. Tried pairing my old iphone 6S which paired fine before. Forget it - unable to pair. Just goes from bad to worse.

Is anyone at Apple reading these comments?

Just an update!

Sorry Apple this annoying continuing Bluetooth issue with iPhone 13 Max Pro is your software fault! My previous 6S & 12 Pro Max all automatically “discovered” my 2017 Forester’s Bluetooth upon entering my vehicle after initial paring. It was a pleasure to have technology and now it’s a severe, royal pain.

You better be reading these loyal customer complaints because of us you are a trillion dollar valued company. It’s not our cars’ fault.

My phone will not auto connect to my Hyundai palisade 2021. The auto connect on my Hyundai palisade is dithered out. It is not a car issue because everyone else’s phone will auto connect except for my iPhone 13 promax. I drive for work and need to be able to answer my phone without picking my phone up. Very dangerous! I have tried numerous times to disconnect from my car my phone reset and nothing works please Apple Fix this issue!

This discussion’s issue is our IPhone 13 Pro Max is already paired with our car’s Bluetooth, but it will not “automatically” connect when we enter the car like our previous iPhones like 12 Pro Max & 6S for me.

We have to manually connect each time.

Blutooth is suppose to automatically search for your paired signal when you are near it.

I “re-paired” my iPhone several times & has not fixed this perpetual annoying issue.
