iPhone not tracking

So I forgot to put my watched on today but figured my iPhone would track my steps however, after a long morning of shopping and going for a walk, my phone didn’t track anything. Help. Why is this happening? How do I fix it?

plschultz1,

Got it. Thank you for checking that. If you go to the Health app, select your Steps data and scroll to the "Data Sources & Access", is your iPhone listed as a source? When using your iPhone instead of your Apple Watch you may need to change the order of the data source and have your iPhone as the top source.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities plschultz1,

We can definitely understand wanting to track your steps with your iPhone! Your steps should be counted and you should be able to view them in the Health app on your iPhone. Have you tried restarting your iPhone since noticing that the steps were not being tracked? Also, do you have your location services turn on in Settings > Privacy > Location Services?

You can also confirm there are no updates available for your iPhone when you go to Settings > General > Software Update.

Hope that helps!

plschultz1,

If you go to Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness, is Fitness Tracking turned on? If so, confirm that "Health" is turn on there as well and that should add your iPhone as a data source.

You can see that information in the article about under the section titled " Add information from your Apple Watch" for reference.

Take care!
