iPhone 12 mini touchscreen problems

Got this new phone on May. It's been difficult to answer the phone sometimes and screen does not response to touch. Couple of times I couldn't open the phone. When the alarm clock was ringing and I was supposed to use the phone quickly, the screen did not response. I couldn't even stop the alarm. What is the problem with the screen sometimes? It is really annoying when you should act but you cannot close the alarm or open the phone.

Even if you take it to Apple, a backup from your part is advisable and required, actually. Apple won't take responsibility if anything is lost.

For a backup, the best and more complete option is the one using a computer. It contains more info than the one made to iCloud (+ iCloud must have enough space in order to make a backup). You can see the difference between backup methods and how to make them here Backup methods for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Please, always keep a backup on your computer, performing updates to those like every 2 or 3 days, maybe a week depending on how critical is your most recent data.

For your photos, the above method will save them all to your computer, but you can also get them all to iCloud Photos. See Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support. You must also have enough space on iCloud for that.

Now, iCloud starts with a 5GB free option, bigger ones are a monthly payed service iCloud+ plans and pricing - Apple Support

About tech being simple, it is way more simple than it used to be, I guarantee you that. But there are a few things that remain a bit more complex just because they require some steps and configurations that can't be left aside.

For a factory reset, see this Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support.

A clean install is a bit more complex, but if you want to know what it is (and you'll see it's not that hard), see this https://wccftech.com/how-to/clean-install-ios-15-ipados-15-final/ (the links provided in the article for iOS download are straight from Apple, so original files).

WARNING: don't do any of this without having made the complete backup I mentioned before, OK?

Have you tried to reset the phone to factory settings? Or a clean install? If those options don't help, this might not be a software issue, but hardware. In that case you should take your iPhone to and Apple Store or Authorized for proper check.

Since you activated it in May, it's still under warranty until May 2022, so don't hesitate to take it in. Apple will check it and, if necessary, repair it for free (once it states that's not related to misuse). Some more info: Your Hardware Warranty

Thank you for your answer! :) I haven't try anything yet, except closing and opening again. I'm afraid loosing all the pictures and calendar reminders if reseting the factory settings. Maybe it's better to take to Apple for check. Just wondering new high tech problems with seem to be quite simply, how the basic use can show up to be so difficult.

Thank you so much for your help! I have to check the links. It is really helpful to get straight links. Today I was about to, but I haven't installed the iCloud on the phone yet, if the guarantee disagrees with it somehow. I think I'll try to move the pictures to the other computer, as there are some uncertainty in my Mac as well after Big Sur update.. :D Me and tech, but not up to me only.. That is under investigation what happened in the Mac. Calendar I have to think, as not now in the Mac. Sometimes it seems that paper and pencil are for sure. :)

Sure, give them all a good read. Learn well and you'll find out those are not complicated procedures, You just need to go through them once or twice and get used to them. With a few clicks and/or taps you can get what you need, but you gotta have it all clear in your head to feel confident doing it. First time is always like jumping cliffs 🤪

About iCloud, you don't need to install it. Once you created an Apple ID and activated your iPhone with it, iCloud came as service within your Apple ID. But I get you're not using it for your files and photos/videos, right? No problem.

Even though your Mac is acting strange, you can create a backup on it too. But yes, if you're not trusting it very much right now, a second computer is a good move. Make a backup on both. Safety is never too much.

Yes, thank you! :) It is only taking the right attitude, if not jumping off the cliff, but to really put in mind all the tech information and taking time for that. Interestingly when I just checked the phone, iCloud is asking me to accept the new terms of use. I read something about the phonecompany information that for example iCloud shouldn't be installed if returning the phone for repairing. I don't know why. But that's funny when iCloud is already there. :D Maybe I can just accept new terms of use in iCloud.. Maybe it has not got anything to do with the guarantee in this case. Yep, I haven't use icloud on the phone. Good advice to make backup on both Mac and the other machine! I appreciate your help! :)

iCloud is an Apple service and it sure wants you to use it and it will never prevent you from getting your phone serviced.

If you need service and your phone is still working somehow, of course, you better remove it in order to preserve and protect your data and also to allow Apple to check the device without any difficulties, but if it’s dead, you can’t log off, so Apple will service/replace your phone with your account on no matter what. And iCloud is no more than an Internet account for Apple services, that’s all.
