Well it is unclear— however my understanding is the what doesn't work is the TouchID part.

The "Magic Keyboard " will function as a keyboard.

The Intel Mac does not have the 'hardware' to talk externally to the TouchID... A security issues !

The current new M1 Soc MBP are compatible: Magic Keyboard with Touch ID for Mac models with Apple silicon
