I'm getting iPhone notifications about an unknown device is with me

This is pretty scary. I keep getting notifications that an unknown device is with me and has been tracking me from Find My. It shows a comprehensive map of locations I’ve been to. What could it be? I clicked remove device and it said failed to connect to server. I restarted the phone and now 2 objects show up.

Hey I'm a police officer at usm and I think you (Apple) need to see what's that's about because I literally had two females last week come to me to file a report and the exact same thing was happening to them. It also said to call law enforcement but what are we supposed to do? We aren't tech analyst. They were so scared that they didn't even want to stay at their apartment so we had to accommodate them and have them stay on campus in a dorm. I don't know what's doing on but y'all need to fix it because it ALSO happening to females in tiktok as well.

This is happening to me too. Ever since I did the update in find my location app. I get a notification that I have been traveling with an AirPod and the owner can see it’s location. Then I also get a notification that an unknown accessory is detected. And what’s strange is it only happens at night. 10:34 and 11:19 is usually around the time. Can someone tell me what this is all about? This is starting to make me want to switch to android.

I’m so glad I found this community. My wife just got the same message on her iPhone and it freaked me out. I’m already a paranoid person as it is, especially in these crazy times we’re living. My wife is 6 months pregnant so you could only assume how protective I am of her at the moment. Anyways I looked up and down her car and didn’t find anything. We just switched cars to see if it’s on her or her car. After finding these post though I found a sense of relief. I’m hoping it’s just a bug. Thanks guys.

I had this happen to me the other night. I was traveling in a car with family, including my nephew who was using his AirPods Pro. Aside from what feels like an invasion of privacy, the dangerous part is that my iPhone would have allowed me to send a tone to his AirPods while in use. I have never connected to his device to use his AirPods, nor the opposite. Just about the only thing we share is occasional Wi-Fi and of course we are in each other’s contacts.

So does this mean that a stranger on a bus who gets this alert can send a nasty loud tone to my AirPods Pro… while in use?

I have a similar problem. Everytime after I take a walk with airpods I get a notification from Find My telling an unknown device was following me, with a tracking map, scary. I know it was my airpods and the pair has been established for sometime now. Why does not Find My recognize it is a set of paired ear phones that were following the iphone?

I MAY have a fix. This has been happening to us as well for 2+ months now

,I have spent hours on the home with Apple on our family shared account as we all were receiving the notifications and nothing has helped until now and here is what seems to be working for us. First off, remove apple AirPods from your Apple ID account completely. Then restore the AirPods completely as to a new condition by opening the cover and holding down the back pair button for 15 sec or more until light on the front pulsates in white light. Then, and this is very important! Go away from your home or business or school WIFI! You need to be on cell signal only, Go a few blocks away and then pair the AirPods to original owner ONLY, …… Since doing these steps, we are not getting the notifications that unknown AirPods are following you notifications anymore, I hope this helps, please let me know.

No, we do not share the same Apple ID but all IDs are part of a family shared plan. Meaning parent can see all locations for all devices belonging to all IDs in the FindMy app. The tracking notification was being seen by all members the same way. It was showing in iphones, apple watches and ipads alike. All stating that unknown AirPods Pro were tracking our location.
