The printer prints from my macbook using the same network. When I try to print from my iphone I get a message saying no airprint printers found. I have shut off and restarted the phone, printer, and wifi router. any suggestions of what to try next.
Reason why you can print from Mac, but not iPhone, is that beside AirPrint, on a Mac you can also use WiFi printing (also known as IP printing) for which on iOS you would need an app provided by the Epson.
AirPrint uses Bonjour service (known as zero configuration protocol), same as Home Sharing or Airplay. If you can use Home Sharing and AirPlay on your Home Wi-Fi but not AirPrint, then very likely your printer has AirPrint service disabled even though it is supporting it: About AirPrint.
Test Home Sharing and or AirPrint. See:
Use Home Sharing to share media from a computer to other devices
Use AirPlay to stream video or mirror the screen of your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
If either Home Sharing or AirPlay feature work, then check your printer's documentation how to enable AirPrint feature.
