iOS 15 web links do not open from mail or apps until you click on the link a second time

Have only noticed this on the latest release of iOS on my iPhone and iPad mini. When tapping on a link in mail or within an app that opens Safari the page doesn’t load on the first try. If you go back to mail or the app and tap on the link again it opens safari and the page loads immediately. Super frustrating. Have tried clearing cached and restarting however this did not resolve it.

This is the exact issue I’m seeing on my iPhone 13 Pro/256 running iOS 15.1.1.

When touching a link to a tweet from a Twitter email in Mail, it auto launches Twitter app (expected) then loads the “nothing to see here” message. This issue was not present on my launch day iPhone 13. So it must be some point update between then and now where things went wonky.

Hi Komagatake,

To make sure we're on the same page, you're able to tap a link in an app, it opens Safari, but the page doesn't fully load. Only after going back to the app and tapping the link again does it load properly in Safari, is that correct?

If so, and the issue persists after clearing out Safari's history, does it persist if you restart the device?

Let us know, and we'll follow up from there.

Take care.

Not yet. But I have managed to figure out how to repeat my issue every time.

From iPhone 13 Pro, running most up-to-date iOS:

  • Launch Mail.
  • Select an email from my Inbox.
  • Click a link in the email that takes me to Safari.
  • Return to Mail.
  • Return to Inbox.
  • Close Mail.
  • Launch Mail - this will not auto-load my Inbox but, instead, open the last email for where I linked out to Safari. 100% repeatable. 100% frustrating.

Clearly, the solution is in Apple’s (and Twitter’s?) hands. While it’s likely a blessing we can’t link to Twitter from Mail, for me it’s more about a functionality that was there and now, mysteriously, isn’t, that has me slightly agitated.

Less twitter in my life is probably a good thing. Maybe it’s a “feature.” ;)

Exactly the same issue for me on iPhone 12, ios 15.1. First click on the link from email will open safari and safari looks like it’s trying to open the page but never actually open it ( I don’t have the patient to wait for 5 minutes so I don’t know if eventually safari will be able to open it or not). Only after going back to Mail and click on the link again, the page will load immediately!

It’s certainly ios issue and it’s easily replicable, please fix it!

I am having a similar problem but, in my case, selecting a link in an email from Twitter takes me to the Twitter app I have installed on my iPhone 13 or the app on iPad 2 Air. In my case it get the "Nothing see here - yet" message and nothing I do in the email (clicking again, etc.) works. If I open the Twitter email on my Windows laptop and click a tweet link, it works fine by opening Twitter in my Chrome browser and showing the Tweet I selected in the email.

Is this a related problem? Is there another thread in this forum that addresses this problem?

I’m not sure that’s the same as this but could be related somehow.

I have only found this an issue when clicking a link in email or an app that then opens a Safari window. The loading bar starts to fill but stops after a brief moment and never finishes loading. If you go back into the email and click the link again, Safari opens and it loads up the page straight away the second time around.
