iOS 15 web links do not open from mail or apps until you click on the link a second time

Have only noticed this on the latest release of iOS on my iPhone and iPad mini. When tapping on a link in mail or within an app that opens Safari the page doesn’t load on the first try. If you go back to mail or the app and tap on the link again it opens safari and the page loads immediately. Super frustrating. Have tried clearing cached and restarting however this did not resolve it.

This is the exact issue I’m seeing on my iPhone 13 Pro/256 running iOS 15.1.1.

When touching a link to a tweet from a Twitter email in Mail, it auto launches Twitter app (expected) then loads the “nothing to see here” message. This issue was not present on my launch day iPhone 13. So it must be some point update between then and now where things went wonky.

Again, that is the exact issue here. Since looking at this thread it seems I can force it to work through safari, sometimes it takes two attempts.

But the expected (and desired) behaviour of opening in the Twitter app never works. I always get the nothing to see here yet message.

as others have said, I never had this issue prior to the ios15 update.

we can’t be the only people affected, either Apple or Twitter need to pull their finger out. Don’t really care who’s fault it is, just want it fixed.

Just popping in to say I feel your pain with this bug and wish it would finally get solved—which has been occurring for me for the last few versions iOS going back to iOS 13.

It’s a daily occurrence having to go back to an original link and click it again to get it to load in Safari. Even asking Siri for web searches and clicking links does it on occasion—or even occasionally when executing a Shortcut that activates a URL. Not loading? Gotta run it again, then Safari works properly again.

It’s maddening, especially since it doesn’t always happen and I can’t figure out exactly what circumstances cause it to occur. 😔

The problem I’m having is similar, except it still doesn’t open on further tries. I have this problem on both my iPhone 13 Pro Max & iPad 12.9 inch 5th Generation where I go to open a link, the device very quickly ( in the flash of an eye) opens the link, but “very quickly” once again then opens a page that’s a very brief Summary of what I tried to open & whereas I may have wanted to take action on the originally opened link (sign a petition or forward to Twitter, Facebook or friends through Text, I can’t go backwards to the prior page, which doesn’t even show up in Safari, nor is there a active back arrow to go back to the prior page either on-screen or in Safari. This is so annoying. If I had an App for say the petitions I want to sign &/or forward, I would go there to do so, but this particular site (Care2 Petition) doesn’t have an App. Another email site I frequent, I end up seeing the video portion at least on YouTube, but forwarding the video without the contextual information is a waste of mine & everyone else’s time. One site is the David Sheldrick Trust, where we’ve adopted several elephants & we’re unable to read the updates on our particular elephants or any others we’ve grown fond of, because of the way opening the link is working.

Also, in trying to open an article in Google or Chrome, I have to ‘Copy the Link,’ go to Settings & tap on ‘Open New Page,’ then paste the link into the new browser to open the article - a lot of work just to read an article! However, the links within the opened articles work just fine. So I find myself looking up the petitions (which have become too numerous to keep up &/or are no longer relevant or timely), or hoping to find the latest Sheldrick Trust or other Activist or Philanthropic update & hope those links work fine (& they usually do). But I can’t always find what I’m looking for in Google or Chrome (I’m thinking about downloading additional Browser Apps like Bing or Firefox & there’s one other I read about that’s supposed to be really excellent, but I’ve forgotten it’s name).

I’m wondering if I open these Email or Text links in another, more savvy browser if the problem will go away? Has anyone tried this & if so, can you list which browsers you tried & whether they were failures, too or if a particular one does open just fine (not just your Emails & Texts links, but also your browser articles without having to take all the above steps I listed just to open an article?

1) My problem isn’t that a link won’t open. On the contrary it does, but in the flash of an eye, it opens a Summary page without links instead, so I can’t sign petitions, do PayPal payments, or read links in email petitions, newsletters or news articles embedded in the original email, Tweet or News Articles.

Because links don’t open correctly & I traded in my iPhone 8+ for my iPhone 13 Pro Max, I still have a very old iPhone 6+ that’s on iOS 11.4.2 that I kept only because if I lose my iPhone & Find My Phone won’t work (meaning I lost it while out & about, not in my home or car), I can still use it to make calls via Wi-Fi.

I now use the 8+ to open links that require signatures (such as Petitions & Drop Box Documents) & to complete payments during online shopping. I also have no problem opening links to other information (especially news articles) embedded in emails, newsletters or other linked news articles & Tweets. But when I bought the 13 Pro Max & I tried to trade in the 6+, too, & I was informed that Apple will not be supporting the 6+ much longer & iPhone models prior to the 8.+ in the near future. I’ll only be able to use it to phone out & receive calls (no text messages either!). So, until Apple stops supporting it, I’ll still use if for some purposes.

& Since the 8+ is only a 16 GB phone, I had deleted all the apps I had on the phone in hopes of upgrading its iOS status, but can’t because all other updates past iOS 11.4.1 take more than 15 GB to download & several GBs are already dedicated to Apps that can’t be removed & are essential to the operation of the phone. Since that’s the case, I added Google, Google Chrome, Safari, Twitter, Drop Box & several required Documents Apps back to this old phone just so I can access embedded links, sign petitions, complete payments to pay for merchandise & finalize important donations (especially political & for important causes like for Ukraine) that iOS 15 zips by.

unfortunately, when I bought the new 13 Pro Max it was already on iOS 15, so I can’t have the prior iOS Setting restored. Even doing a Factory Reset would leave the phone on iOS 15! whereas my 8+ 256 gb phone was on iOS 14.2.4

2) Since my 8+ worked perfectly. I really didn’t need to upgrade, but do so anyway every 2-3 years. The 13 Pro Max has been a great disappointment from this problem & more:,

1) glitches while in news articles or emails when something I erased from the devices History (Google, Chrome & Safari) from several weeks ago even, will automatically pop up in the middle of what I’m reading or doing & I have to go to Safari & hope I can get back to the document I was reading or purchase/donation, but that seems to not work most of the time & I have to just blow off hoping to get back to what I was reading.

2) Apps aren’t Refreshing or Updating Automatically as they have on prior phones with earlier iOS Settings, even though Automatic Update is turned on in Settings as is Refresh App for each App (IDK why I even bothered to click on each of these Settings at this point, since they obviously don’t work the way they’re supposed to & have always done so on earlier iOS Settings.

3) Another thing is that the keyboard is extremely sluggish. I am a 1 thumb (Right thumb) typist & have my Settings set as such, so I’m a pretty slow typist already. I also have Sticky Keys turned on. & Still the keyboard will lock up with a letter just hovering above the keyboard. I have to click the phone off & click it back on(not power down) & it usually inserts the hovering letter, but not the rest zi typed.

4) This might be the 2nd most irritating thing iOS 15 does. If I have a misspelled word (& I use long, complicated medical terminology not recognized by iPhone’s Webster’s U.S. dictionary), I can’t just set my cursor within the word to fix it; I have to erase & retype the whole long, complicated word. The dictionary in other iOS versions or iPhones/iPads never have had these problems before - ever!!!

5) Speaking of this problem, the phone refuses to learn the words I use, even the easiest of words all of us use every day. Instead the word options will present the most difficult, very rarely used word as an option to choose from. I’ve now had this phone for 6 months; how long does it take to learn the simplest words I & you use most often? What the heck?

6) The keyboard has a propensity to add a small z before capitalized words. I know my thumb hasn’t gained weight or gotten wider, so why is it doing this? & I’ve not had this problem before buying this phone! Once again, I have to erase the entire word & retype it! It’s downright aggravating!

7) The keyboard has a hard time moving from the numerical keyboard page to the symbols only keyboard. Is this just part of it being sluggish?

8) Complete Notes in the Notes Tile have disappeared, though I haven’t erased the Note.

9) I have my emails set to discard every 6 months unless Starred. Now, this problem goes way back through prior iOS iterations & on prior phones. I had the Apple “Technician fix this problem on both my iPhone & iPad since they sync with each other. But not a single email has been erased, not even from the Trash folder. I now have close to 64,000 emails sitting on each device. The same with Text Messages. It’s at least manageable to go through my Texts once a month to delete oodles of text messages; emails not!

Are any of you experiencing these very same problems (other than the link not opening at all or incorrectly)?

I’m beginning to wish I kept that iPhone 8+ & if I could, I would buy one & have it activated in a heartbeat!

This is an over $1K purchase! You would think Apple would deliver a product worthy of the price. & Apple refuses to address these problems. I’m seriously thinking of reporting them to the Federal Trade Commission at least (IDK if it falls under the Federal Communications Commission, too). Perhaps we need a Class Action Lawsuit to listen to us & fix finally & forever each & every glitch/problem/defect we’re all reporting, yet Apple ignores by not responding here or by addressing & fixing these issues.

Sign me “Ticked Off Past Imagination” (& I’m usually the most kind, purposefully conscious of others & mellow person you will ever meet, so to make me upset, much less angry takes a lot of abuse of my good nature & forgiving soul! It’s time I go meditate & chill out).

As an unfortunate update to the issue I was experiencing and shared earlier (clicking a link in an email that took me out of Mail would mean no matter when I opened Mail after clicking said link, would always auto-open to that email that housed said link): I’m now seeing the same in Messages.

If I click a link in a message that takes me out of Messages, any time I launch messages, it auto-opens to the message that contained that link. It’s a real PITA.

May 31, 2022 1:38 PM in response to Tarpua

I don’t know if this will help any of you or not, but after TURNING OFF ANALYztICS, links are opening the way it should; however, if it happens to be some (not all) Petitions I wish to open, they will open just fine & I’m able to sign it, but especially with Care2 Petitions, after signing the processing circle will continue to revolve until I’ve had enough & back out of the Petition. But after doing so, I receive a message thanking me for signing said petitions. So now, I give it a reasonable amount of time to process, then back out. Mission accomplished.

Turning off Analytics now allows me to open the desired news link (or any other kind of link), without skipping the real link (which may contain pictures, videos & further links) & taking me to a very simplified “Summary” of the news article or other linked information, as was happening before. I just updated to the very newest iOS update 15.4 ~2-3 weeks ago & just now noticed there’s now an iOS 15.5 Update available. I’m not really sure if I want to update or not now that I’m finally able to open links &/or sign petitions, but will let you know if it further hinders me once again if I do so.

Try turning off Analytics & see if that helps you as much as it’s helped me.

Jun 27, 2022 12:25 AM in response to Jbessfan

Try TURNING OFF ‘Analytics’ in Settings. Unfortunately for Apple, it means they will no longer receive data from my devices on how they’re performing (I’ve had an ‘I understand the need to do so, but still don’t like it’ relationship with this feature anyway). I only turned it off when I saw several areas they were accessing 30+ times/day & though a Scammer could hide their information here & I wouldn’t even recognize it, so I’m going to turn it off (IDK if this would prevent any virus from wreaking damage or just stop it from being seen by me). Anyway, after Turning Off ANALYTICS, my devices have been able to access links, attachments & videos just fine, though still sometimes slowly, but I think that’s a Wi-Fi issue.

See if it works for you. I swear it was the answer for me!!!
