iOS 15 web links do not open from mail or apps until you click on the link a second time

Have only noticed this on the latest release of iOS on my iPhone and iPad mini. When tapping on a link in mail or within an app that opens Safari the page doesn’t load on the first try. If you go back to mail or the app and tap on the link again it opens safari and the page loads immediately. Super frustrating. Have tried clearing cached and restarting however this did not resolve it.

This is the exact issue I’m seeing on my iPhone 13 Pro/256 running iOS 15.1.1.

When touching a link to a tweet from a Twitter email in Mail, it auto launches Twitter app (expected) then loads the “nothing to see here” message. This issue was not present on my launch day iPhone 13. So it must be some point update between then and now where things went wonky.

After dealing with the same problems for months, I finally found a fix:

1) In Settings, open Mail

2) Under Messages, open “Privacy Protection”

3) Uncheck “Protect mail activity”

“Protect mail activity” hides your IP address and loads remote content in the background without opening messages. But disabling it is the only solution I’ve found that works. Links in emails now open for me on the first try.

While it has worked for I’d say 90+% for me, some things still won’t open, so I do have the same problem as you’re experiencing, but 90+% is much better than 0%. I also noticed with the very latest iOS 15.5 update, it improved response speed, as previously, the processing circle would go round & round so long, some links would time out, I found this particularly frustrating with Go2 Petitions & other Petitions (not necessarily political), so I don’t think a government entity is throttling unwanted signed petitions. As I mentioned, things improved after the latest iOS update & response speeds has been one of those improvements for the most part, which makes me satisfied now 97% of the time.

I’m haven’t experienced many glitches since the iOS update, but then I only updated my phone 3 weeks ago (it was probably available sooner, but I was traveling & according to a family member who’s an FBI agent, you should ALWAYS turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth & Hot Spot everytime you leave your house as a Scammer only has to pass nearby your device to steal all your information. And ALWAYS, NEVER use Public Wi-Fi. When all 3 are turned off & depending on whether or not you’re in a building conducive to using your apps (you know what I mean), besides building interference, turning off the other 3 & working off Cellular Data only, slows things down significantly & I just wait until I get home to access those apps. It can be pretty boring, especially at my allergist’s office (in case of an allergic reaction), where I have to hang out in the office for a period of time before being able to go home. I used to watch videos while waiting, but with Bluetooth turned off now, I’m unable to do so. But I figure it’s better to be safe than sorry. (P.S. If you’re on VPN service, I don’t know how this would affect your phone if you don’t turn off all 3, but I don’t think my relative would have left out that caveat if there is one).

Namaste🙏, Pamela
