Toxic smelling MacBook Air cable.

My new laptop is making me sick and it’s the cable. Turn’s out this is a well documented problem with in the past year. I opened the box and was floodec with toxic, eye watering mold odor. Returned it and got a remplacement which I smelled in the store. The laptop is fine - but the cable! I can’t have it in the same room with me! Apple guy said it smells normal to him. How could Apple let this continue? They offer a replacement of the same cable. The whole Apple experiece is ruined for me. Do they think we want to be upset about this? Why can’t they remedy this? Even if it is only for those who complain?
