Battery exploded

Hello! I have an old iPhone that was my dads and the battery randomly exploded. I was going to switch over and use this but cannot now. Is this covered as something apple would repair? Other than this the phone was in perfect condition

That phone is destroyed. Take it to an Apple Store and have it recycled.
