What does "notifications silenced" mean in Messages?

I’ve been texting with a good friend of mine and all of a sudden at the very bottom of our texting thread it says “🌙 Molly has notifications silenced “. What does this mean? Is she specifically silencing my specific text messages so she doesn’t receive them or the banner doesn’t pop up? She has an iPhone as well and I’ve never seen this message before. My feelings are a bit hurt but I’m not really sure what it means, if someone could explain this to me I would so appreciate it.

We understand that you’re seeing a notifications silenced message when messaging a friend in Messages app and we’re happy to help.

It looks like your friend uses Focus on their iPhone. When a person sets up Focus on their iPhone, then you might see a message displayed in the Messages app that says [contact name] has notifications silenced. This means that the person you’re messaging has their notifications silenced. Please note that you can still notify your friend if it’s urgent. I have turned everything off (Focuses, Notifications, alarms) but people continue to get the Notifications Silenced message. I have also done the IOS update to 16.5.1. Please fix this!

You've silenced Focuses, Notifications, Alarms... and people are still getting messages that yes, in fact you have silenced them???

Trying to get notifications silenced off of a contact. My daughter. I can’t figure out how to do it. Shows shows silenced and is silenced in messages, when I get a text.

This really is annoying. I wonder what version of phone this is happening to. I have an iPhone 13. It’s not happening to me but to my two friends that have iPhone 13 Pro. They’re missing work calls for goodness sakes and calls and texts from VIPs aka ME!!!!!
