Pages for Mac "open recent"
Perhaps I've missed a setting, but the "open recent" option under files only offers me "clear men" option.

Quit Pages. Visit the System Preferences > General panel, and set the number of recent items you want Pages to place on that Open Recent menu:
You may need to open and close a Pages document or several to build up the Open Recent menu. Files that you delete will continue to appear on this list until they pop off of the nn items stack you have configured per the above image.

Thanks. It worked.
FYI, I sent the same query to iWork support, and they wrote back that they were puzzled by why I got that message in the recent window, and asked all sorts of ridiculous things about sending files in the send that. A little embarrassing.
We try not to strive for embarassment here. I would suggest visiting this community before stressing out Apple Support. 😎
