Move iCloud account to Apple One (Media Subscription) account

So if I change my iCloud account (where all my backups, pictures and files are) to use my Apple One account (my media subscription account) it will move all my iCloud storage to that account. This means i will no longer have two accounts...is that correct? I am sooo scared i am going to lose all pictures and files. I have been paying for two subscriptions for months because i fear i will loose everything. Plus i just opened a Apple card and cannot get it in my wallet until my iCloud references the account that i opened that card with. Which is my my Apple One account. This has become a huge mess.

The page linked to at the top of this page covers it comprehensively. Your Apple One subscription wil be applied to the account you use for media etc., but you can choose to apply the storage which is part of your Apple One subscription to an iCloud account belonging to a different ID without affecting that account's contents.

As far as I can see you would have to create an iCloud account in Apple One if you don't already have one there and then move the contents manually from the other account, downloading them to your Mac and then back to the Apple One accojnt.

Thanks! I am just super paranoid.

I have family sharing on both my iCloud account for backup and Apple One account for Media Subscriptions and it doesn't really spell it out for them on what they need to do. Just trying to cover all basis.

Ok...well after trying to follow the steps in the parent post, it is not allowing to do what i want to do. I want to do the opposite. I want to make the account i use for Media Subscriptions to be my iCloud account. this only lets me move my Apple One iCloud to point to my iCloud account. i want to completely get rid of the account i use for iCloud right now as i would like to get rid of that email.
