What happens if I have Catalina OS and an iMac 2012?

The details (2.9gHz, Quad Core Intel Core i5, 16 gb 1600MHz DDR3)

iMac 27″, macOS 10.15

Catalina 10.15 is the highest macOS that a Late 2012 iMac can run.

If past history follows suit, Catalina should be supported by security updates for at least another year or two.

Sadly if you want to upgrade to a later and newer macOS (Big Sur, Monterey and beyond), then you will need a newer Mac.
