Catalina 10.15 is the highest macOS that a Late 2012 iMac can run.
If past history follows suit, Catalina should be supported by security updates for at least another year or two.
Sadly if you want to upgrade to a later and newer macOS (Big Sur, Monterey and beyond), then you will need a newer Mac.

There is no macOS upgrade path for the iMac 2012 beyond Catalina 10.15.7.
That is the newest version that will run on that computer.
