Stolen AirPod Pros - Will their location appear in the Find My app if they are ever updated to the new iOS 15 firmware?

I understand there is a new update in iOS 15 to allow tracking of AirPod Pros when they aren't connected to your phone. Sadly, my AirPod Pros were stolen at the weekend but were on the old firmware without the update.

My question is, if someone updates my AirPods to the latest firmware (which should happen shortly after the phone they're connected to upgrades to iOS 15), will the AirPods appear in my Find My app?

The Find My app currently shows the location as where they last connected to my phone (iPhone 11 Pro).

Hello JClapham,

After reviewing your post, it seems like you want to know if the AirPods are updated, will they appear on the map. If the AirPods are charged, they should appear.

"If your AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max are offline

If your AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max are out of range or need to charge, you might see their last known location, "No location found," or "Offline." You also won't see the location for your AirPods or AirPods Pro if they're inside their Charging Case. You can see AirPods Max in Find My for up to 18 hours inside their Smart Case. Outside of their Smart Case, you can see them for 72 hours. Learn more about AirPods Max battery life

If you see "No location found" or "Offline" under your AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max, you can't play a sound to find them but you might be able to get directions to the location where they were last connected. If they do come back online, you'll get a notification on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch you use them with.

Find My is the only way that you can track or locate a lost or missing device. There is no other Apple service that can find, track, or otherwise flag your device for you.

If you're using a Managed Apple ID assigned to you by a school or institution, you don’t have access to Find My."

No, your information is out dated. With the latest firmware and iOS 15 AirPod Pros will show their location whether in the case or not. This is a given.

My question is, if the person that has stolen them updates to iOS 15 and the AirPods update to the latest firmware, will the Find My app show me their location, even though they have been paired with the thief’s iPhone?
