How to disable iTunes auto updates?

I have not used Itunes for a number of years. Sadly it has become a poor piece of software (like much Mac software which is completely over-designed now). It basically drove me crazy in the end. However, using a Mac daily ( I still love Mac hardware) I am almost forced to keep it on my computer. This means that it wants to update. I want to turn these updates off. I have tried many things but nothing seems to work: Please help.

I'm not aware of any obvious benefits of having iTunes 12.7.4.80 over 12.8.3.1. I would recommend you either upgrade to more recent build which is functionally similar, or remove iTunes altogether.

Should you want the second option you can try this approach to remove iTunes:

  1. Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal
  2. In Terminal type cd /Applications/ and press enter to open the Applications directory
  3. Type sudo rm -rf iTunes.app/ and press enter to delete iTunes
  4. You will be prompted to provide your administrator password which you should enter to complete the process

You may need to temporarily disable system integrity protection (SIP) while you are removing iTunes.
