Area code

This feature is not available for safety reasons. As carriers continue to roll out new short calling codes like 988 for suicide prevention, etc., the ability to call without an area code has been largely removed so that these short codes can be more effective. iPhones are generally faster to become carrier compliant which is why your experience with Android phones may be different at the moment. You can always simply add your friends and family to your contacts app in iOS with the area codes of their phone numbers included. This way, you can simply ask Siri to call contacts or you can press the phone button in Messages to call a contact you are texting.

That is not possible unfortunately.
