(Recently) Working internal hard drive being reported as unformatted after external drive boot
It’s all very strange, the laptop’s internal drive was working and for reasons too complex to go into I restarted off my G-tech maybe 2017 vintage USB G-drive, something I’ve done many times before. When the boot up was done I noticed the internal drive wasn’t showing up, so I checked Disk Utility and it reported the drive as unformatted. Computer is mid 2012 13” MacBook Air, I think running running 10.13, high Sierra. The internal keyboard is disabled so there’s no power key. Apple support called me after my local Apple store turned me away—computer is too old—and scheduled the call. The Apple tech suggested we restart while unplugging the external drive. I thought if it was just a SW glitch, the Mac would find the internal drive, and if it was a drive failure the external drive would boot up once plugged in. Except nothing happened, I just got a grey screen.
