Big Sur screen saver problem

On my MBPro laptop running 11.6 Big Sur--I go to screen saver in Sys Prefs and select an album in Photos Library--it shows in dialog box but when selected does not show up in box just above--hope that is clear--and nothing but a black screen appears when screen saver comes on after 1 minute (as set)--

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.6

are you using iCloud Photos? Then you have to force a download from iCloud for the photos you want to use in the Screensaver by viewing them enlarged. Also, the screensaver has currently a bug and may not show the edited versions of cropped or adjusted photos, only the unmodified originals.

It depends on your use of iCloud Photos. With “optimize Mac Storage” enabled not all photos will have been downloaded and the downloaded versions will change dynamically. You will have to keep using the photos to endure they will stay downloaded. Alternately,, you could export your screensaver photos to a folder in your Pictures folder and use this for the screensaver.
