IPad Air 4, iOS 15 Safari Bookmark Menu Bug when viewed in landscape mode

So the bookmark menu has disappeared in iOS 15 making Safari somewhat useless. The war against bookmarks continues in the browser. I’d like to stick with Safari as my primary browser but it’s currently not usable due to the following bug/anti-user experience change.

The apparent replacement for the bookmark menu is the side tab control. Unfortunate this icon disappears as soon as you work your way into the menus and the only way to force the side bar to disappear (entering full screen viewing mode) is to work your way back up to the top of the menu forcing the button to reappear. Using the bookmarks requires a full drill down the menu stack then all the way back up for every single webpage you wish to visit.

Does anyone know of any way to cause the sidebar to automatically disappear in landscape mode? Is there a way to get the bookmark menu back? For clarity the sidebar will disappear automatically when the screen is vertical, the issue only happens when the screen is horizontal (on the magic keyboard).

You have discovered how this “new feature” works.

Unfortunaely there is no other workaround for the actions needed for this “new” Bookmarks panel “feature”.

If you hate this new “feature” as most everyone else has, who has posted about this, you can make your voice heard to Apple by posting feedback about this issue in the feedback link below.
