Anyone finding Blender running very slow on Mac Mini M1?

I've just bought a Mac Mini M1 (8GB RAM), I'm running the Apple Silicon build 2.93.5 of Blender and it seems to be lagging a LOT!

Whenever I rotate or scale an object, there's a good few seconds of lag... whereas in the tutorial I'm watching on YouTube, the guy seems to be able to rotate and scale objects seamlessly.

I've seen a lot of videos raving about how good the M1 chips were are high-end, intensive processes so can anyone help me out in identifying what might be making Blender run soooo slowly?

Thanks in advance! :)

Mac mini 2018 or later

What other processes are running on your Mac Mini at the same time that you are using Blender?

One way to check, is using the Activity Monitor.

Another way to check processes and vitals is with EtreCheck Pro.

If you would like to post your EtreCheck Pro Report here for review.

Hi Mike,

My mac M1 Mini also runs really slow in Blender, and I have the 16GB with 1TB of storage. I’ve been having problems with load times with my Mac M1 Mini since I brought it and no Apple customer service person can figure it out…. On my old iMac I didnt have such problems, but with this CPU/GPU mixed with the Silicon chip, there is just no room for actual 3D work on a good scale without lag and eventually shutoff.

I don’t know who was doing all the raving in YouTube channels but this computer was the worst Apple product I ever brought. In regards to Activity Monitor, Blender is the only app I have up MOST of the time and I STILL get Memory is about to run out. I hardly have used storage either.

I’m going to have to go on YouTube to let people know NOT to buy M1 products for 3D work until Apple comes out with a computer that can actually handle it. Which is sad considering I normally love Apple’s interfacing and connectivity. Apple is only good for Film editing really and Adobe “light” graphics work.
