iPhone 13 camera unable to focus on close objects

I need to take photos for my self-testing kit result and it needs to be close enough. I had no problem on iPhone XR and iPhone 12. This is the back of the iPhone box for a reference.

I have tried:

  • tapping to focus
  • move away and moving back slowly
  • restart my phone

Can someone help me out here? Thanks a lot!

Hello zhoukerrr,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities!

We see that your iPhone 13 camera is taking blurry photos.

We’d be happy to help you!

We recommend following the steps in If the camera or flash on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working for further troubleshooting.

Take care.

Hi zhoukerrr,

I have the same problem with my new iPhone 13 mini. Today I compared close up fotos with my iPad and the iPhone’s picture quality is way worse…

with googling I found another post regarding this in the Apple community:

iPhone 13 camera not focusing on close ob… - Apple Community

Unfortunately, the suggested tip from Eric~F did not help in my case.

Are there any further ideas?

If I zoom out a bit to 0.9 and the phone uses the ultra wide angle lense, the close up images look very good. However, when I switch back to 1.0 and the wide angle camera the quality gets very bad again.

I'll post here the same as I posted on the referred page as this is to me an egregious omission.

I've got the same issue and it seems they've removed the close up functionality of the camera. I had it on my iPhone 6 which was the latest phone I had since we don't have $ to upgrade that often. Typing this on a 13" Macbook Pro 2009!

The only thing I found so far is the app Halide which might get back the closeup function, BUT it costs $50 to buy it lol. Thanks Apple. This is sooooo bad.
