I have transferred my old Mac to new IMac with external drive time machine data. Computer opens to sign in and once password is put in it does not move beyond the “buffering” icon what do I do

I am setting up new IMac. I have transferred data from old Mac via Time machine external drive. New IMac opens to sign in password page but will not move beyond buffering once password is put in. What do I do now?

iMac, OS X 10.11

Restart your Mac and try again. You may need to force restart by pressing and holding the rear power button.
