Unfortunately, iMovie 8.0.6 has long been discontinued and can no longer be updated or upgraded. You would need to have, or have had at one point in time, iMovie 10 on your Mac in order to update.

Assuming that you are not already running the current iMovie version, you would sign into the app store, type in "iMovie app" in the search box, and then update iMovie from the iMovie app icon that appears in the applications window.
Another way is the following: To update/redownload iMovie 10, drag your iMovie 10 app from the Applications folder into the trash, but do not empty the trash. (You can skip that step if you had iMovie 10 on your computer before, but deleted it.) Sign in to the app store and open your purchases folder by clicking on your name at the bottom of the app store side bar. You
will see your purchases displayed, including iMovie 10. Redownload/update iMovie from there. If not successful, drag your present iMovie app out of the trash (if you moved it there) and return it to the Applications folder.

As you have just purchased a brand new iMac then iMovie should be in your Applications Folder.
This will be version 10 .
If you can't see it in the Applications folder go to the App Store and see if you can download from there.
I would be interested to know how you got iMovie version 8.0.6 onto you new iMac, was it migrated over from an old Mac?
Also pretty sure that when you buy a new Mac you have to ACCEPT applications such as iMovie ,Garage Band e.t.c to identify them with your Apple ID .
Try this....
Was the iMac that you purchased a new or pre-owned computer? Is it running High Sierra, as indicated in your post data, or Catalina or Big Sur?
-- Rich
It is new and runs on Big Sur
Last question. What version of iMovie are you presently running?
-- Rich
I believe the latest version of iMovie that appeared yesterday requires Monterey.
Correction! It only needs Monterey when editing iPhone Cinematic footage otherwise it requires OS 10.15.1.
Have you got 10.15.0 ?
Thanks for your help.
