AirPods won't work while mirroring my phone

when I mirror video from my phone to Apple TV my tv plays the sound but the sound won't play through my AirPods

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today with AirPlay and your AirPods. It sounds like you want the sound coming from the AirPods instead of the Apple TV.

What you are describing is expected behavior. If you want to hear sound from your AirPods, they would need to be connected with the Apple TV: Connect Bluetooth devices to Apple TV.

Yea they are connected to the Apple TV. But When I start mirroring my phone to the TV, the AirPods get either disconnected or turned off. Maybe something with the app I'm using and trying to mirror. Im gonna try to mirror some other app and see if it keeps happening.
