Incase and Speck finally have hardshell cases for the 2021 M1 Pro/Max MacBook Pro. It's about time!

iBenzer and Mosiso have both released their line of protective hard cases on Amazon. These brands are both best sellers. That said, I am not advocating for either of these options. I would recommend waiting for a more reputable company to release their 2021 protective case e.g. Urban Armor Gear, Incase, etc. In the mean-time, I have been using the 16-inch Macbook Pro zip-up case by Thule. This lets me use the laptop while within the case comfortably to minimize scratches/accidental damage.
Best full time hard shell case for MacBook Pro M1's is incase.com - I have one on my 2020 MacBook Pro M1 13"; no issues with heat etc. - However I also just got a new 2021 MacBook Pro M1 Max and due to the changes in the ports etc (and Apple keeping the final design so hush), Incase told me they will not have hard shell cases for the 16" M1 Max (or Pro) until late January/February 2022.
This is what I bought from Amazon to use until the Incase ones come out. I’ve had it for a little over a month now and it’s been adequate for the price.

I called Incase - they will have new Dot Shell's for the new MBP M1 14 and 16 in January (early Feb latest) - its the only full time shell that works well - going to wait for those for my new 16" M1 Max
I ordered one from Amazon and it came the other day. The quality isn’t too bad and it came with a screen protector and a keyboard cover. It’s not the greatest but for $25 it’s doing the job until Incase comes to the rescue with a better one. This one is a Mosiso brand.
Hi! Check this one, hope it helps you. I have it on my M1 Pro 16" and it has been great.

In all honesty anything that impedes passive or active airflow & heat dispersion is not recommended.
A quality padded travel bag if you are concerned about transportation.
Otherwise if you are determined you can check for updates here—https://www.apple.com/shop/accessories/all
I second Leroy's sentiments. Most of these hard shells do impede airflow. The whole machine uses its body for heat dissipation. Keep the machine shut down inside padded bags when transiting to avoid accidental turning on in the bag and overheating, and protect it while travel.
I made the mistake of getting one off amazon and regret it. The Top fit ok, but the bottom is flimsy and does not fit snug. Not worth the money. I'll an Incase one like the one I had on my Mid-2015 MBP. When I traded it in they could not believe it was 6 years old.
I just checked out these two links. They refer to cases for the prior 16" MacBook, not the M1. In particular, neither one seems to offer a case with ventilation on the underside.
BTW - Extreme Skins and Cover Up have released some....
it depends on the case. I’m hoping mCover comes up
with one soon.
I’ve had an mCover on my
2016 MacBook Pro and
honestly it never got hot
because of it. The bottom
of the case was very well
grated/ventilated, with cutouts that exposed all the fan ports.
it had back legs too, to elevate
the bottom for airflow.
Now at 2021, that 2016 has not
one scratch or dent because of
it. It looks like a new laptop.
I think it worked because it was
minimalist and non intrusive.
i suppose those thick cases that look like body armor may hinder
airflow.
it depends on the case
If they impede airflow, why do they sell the hard shell cases online and in their stores? The hard shell case I bought for my MacBook Pro 8 years ago I purchased in store and it's molded so that every opening on the Mac is accessible. I don't doubt what you're saying is true, it just seems counterproductive yet a means for Apple to make money.
I agree. Laptops can get banged up very easily. These cases do protect the laptop from everyday bangs and nicks. I just got the 2021 MBP M1Max, and unfortunately already see a few scratches on the bottom. I can only hope their cases come soon.
