AirPods Pro Detected Near You

Hi, I got a notification Friday night saying “AirPods Pro Detected Near You” I don’t own any AirPods and neither does my partner that I live with.

This really freaked me out in light of some AirTag situations…it said they could see my location for some time. And then I couldn’t even disable the AirPods because you have to have them on you so they could just continue to see my location…

It seems silly because who would drop their expensive AirPods in someone’s bag or car on purpose but it still freaked me out. What should I do if this happens again? Was it a fluke or should I not be worried?

Attached are screenshots of what it showed me, what does the red line mean? Is that where they were first seen?

did anyone get this figured out? got notification that airpod pro has been tracking my location the past two days. i’m getting pretty concerned because the dots are showing that someone has looked at my location multiple times. i only get the notification when i arrive at work. if this is a person hacking into my phone, they know where i live and where i work at this point. i’ve turned off all location services and i’m not sure what to do next

A random guy showed up at our office claiming his airpods had been stolen at a restaurant and that his location tracker for his airpods showed they were in our building. Really? Is this a new scam of some sort? Someone told me that these airbuds are tracked using any iphone that's connected to the internet. If our iphones are being used to help people find lost or stolen property there must be a way to opt out. Right? Really don't want strangers coming to my house or office looking for stolen property. Talk about a security concern.

This happened to me just today. I called apple support and was told that airpods will not track your location unless they are physically with you. I checked my bag and couldn't find anything. Also, i was told that if they were connected to one of your devices that they would actually show up in your bluetooth settings, and none were showing up as connected in mine. I was also told that someone may have lost their airpods pro and were trying to find them, I may have walked past where they had been lost and they showed up in my find my app, so that I guess I could help someone find them. I was told that in order to see if someone is tracking your location, in find my, the device that is tracking you would move with you, and not stay in one place, AKA the airpods icon in find my would move with you. I turned bluetooth off and back on again and all was clear in find my. I think this is a glitch with people trying to find lost items with find my and the device accidentally showing up in other people's find my. In other words, I don't think its anything to worry about and I think apple will fix it with a new update.

The exact same thing is happening to me! I am currently experiencing this. I’m so thankful to finally come across this thread. I did call the police because of on going situations with my ex and I wasn’t sure if he had placed his AirPod on my vehicle to discover my new address. I had a police report created just in case. Most of my online research indicates it’s a glitch from a recent update. But why does the map show me leaving one exact location and then being at another exact location?

I am having the same issue. I received the notification that “AirPods Pro moving with you” when I got home from the gym. The red tracking follows my path home from the gym and now the AirPods haven’t been located since I received the notification. I can’t get the find my app to play a sound on the unknown AirPods but I do have my own which I used at the gym tonight. Hopeful that these are my AirPods but still unnerving knowing there have been other issues with malicious intent with air tags.

Hey Bubblia,

From what I know. I have airpod pros and my wife has yet to use them/paired them to her phone and she got a notification that my airpod pros were detected but it doesn't specifically say they are mine. Just says "Airpods Pro Detected, An Airpods Pro has been moving with you for a while. The owner can see its location. You can play a sound to find it." I want to either guess you were with someone, maybe like a friend that has some airpod pros or that possibly your neighbors, if you live in like an apartment. That can be a close proximity to these airpods pro OR you were just close to someone that had some airpods pro when you were out and about. I will probably mess around with these airpod pros with my wife's unconnected phone and see if I can figure something out since I haven't seen apple respond.

I can totally understand why this is worrying: software issues should not exist in such a sensible and important area, where people might get scared.

If you receive a “[device, e.g. AirTag, AirPods Pro] detected moving with you” notification, try to tap Find Nearby to find it near you. Also check pockets, purses, etc. If you do find an unknown AirTag, remove its battery. Go to the police if it’s found while away from home, and do not go home!

This is what you should do if it ever happens to be stalked for real. If you know for a fact that the alert is a false positive, tap on the Unknown Item and tap Pause Safety Alerts.

I personally never had this issue, knowing my roommate has a pair of AirPods Pro. This might happen when the owner of the AirPods leaves and you have those AirPods with you while moving. Otherwise I can’t explain what is wrong with these notifications.

Hope that helps!

To my knowledge, I believe your personal info is safe. I own AirPod pros and they always notify me like it’s not mine and it’s annoying. So far from what I tested, if you’re around someone that has them it will notify you. It always notifies my wife. When you play the sound to find them and they are inside the case, it’s a very faint sounds to hear. The room needs to be very quiet, and if it’s in a bag it could make it even harder to hear but if the AirPod ear pieces are out of the case, you can hear them better. Just know if someone where to leave them on you, those AirPods will probably die by the end of the day and the owner won’t be able to find it. Maybe last location it was connected to for them on their phone but if it leaves their phones network, it’s a lost item forever then they’ll have to buy new ones. The AirTag gps seems more reliable on the lost items part, in my opinion. I’d be more cautious of AirTags notification popping up.

It is happening to me right now and I am unable to figure out where the devices are. First it said AirPods Pro and I don’t own AirPods Pro and second it alerted me on another unknown device. It is very annoying, I tried to play sound on AirPods but my request was cancelled and I cannot disable my location.

The same thing happened to me tonight. I’m relieved to have found this thread but still really shaken up. It appeared from the notification that someone had put the AirPods on my person or car and could track them to my location. If this is a glitch it needs to be resolved immediately or at the very least Apple should officially notify customers so they aren’t sitting up all night watching the windows and doors like I am.
