can't see individual music files on my iPhone while in iTunes

In iTunes, I used to be able to click on the device image of my iPhone and see a list of the music, playlists, etc. on the phone. Now if I click on the device image under "devices," exactly nothing happens. The only thing I can do is eject it. This limits how I can edit my playlists, etc. What's wrong?

Can not remove playlists under Device list I am trying to remove EVERYTHING from iTunes on my PC. Literally everything. I try to delete the iTunes library file and it just comes back. As an example, when I plug my phone in, it shows up under the "Devices" column on the left of the screen. In this list it lists all of my old playlists. I try to manually delete these playlists but the only options are "Play", "Shuffle", "Play Next", "Play Later" and "Open in New Window". See the screenshot I provided. How do I remove these playlists listed under the Devices column? I have already removed everything from my phone, I simply want iTunes to be rid of EVERYTHING I've ever downloaded/played, etc. ---

Itunes playlists disappeared from my iphone8 after latest update. How to restore? I have iphone 8 and itunes on PC where all my playlists show....but after recent ios update, all playlists disappeared from my iphone. There is no iCloud library option in settings on the phone. How do i reload the playlists from PC to iphone?

Itunes no longer shows device>Music>Options so I'm unable to create new playlists or add new artist etc to my iPhone. I used to see this when my iPhone was connected to my PC/iTunes: Now I see this: Where did the options to add Playlists, Artists, Songs go?? It's gone...
