Voice memo recordings stuck downloading, unable to access them

I had this problem and figured out the solution that worked for me (TLDR: chose Edit Recording). I would have posted this on the other forum about this issue, but I am new to Apple support and didn't know how to reply b/c that option was grayed out for me. But anyway: I upgraded my iPhone 8 to a 12 recently (yes, I am slow to update), and before we reset my 8, I checked to make sure everything transferred over correctly. I specifically checked my voice memos because I write, and that tool is handy to record my thoughts while driving. I usually wait until I have ten or so before transferring them to my written notes. I only had 8 at the time of upgrading my phone (which meant I didn't have them saved anywhere else), so I checked my Voice Memos while still in the Verizon store, and saw them all listed there by name. I assumed everything was correct, so I moved on to checking my other apps and determined it was alright to reset my 8. A few days later, I went to retrieve the recordings, but when I clicked on them, the most recent ones (and, admittedly, the longer ones), showed a status of "Downloading" for about 24 hours, and clicking on them did nothing; I could not open the recording to hear the memo. Older (shorter) recordings quickly downloaded and were available to listen to. The workaround I discovered that worked for me was this: I chose the "Edit Recording" option, which appears by swiping on the recording to see a small menu, which includes "Delete," and the three dot option provides several other things, including to "Edit." When the edit screen appeared, I pushed the Play button, and was able to listen to all 8 recordings that had been stuck. I hope this is helpful to other users experiencing the same problem. I hope that, in future updates, Apple not only fixes this bug, but decides to make the Voice Memos a feature that can be uploaded and backed up to our iCloud accounts.
