Siri says "unable to resume" radio play...and then plays the radio just fine

I often listen to local radio through the HomePod. To turn it off, I say "Hey Siri, pause" and to turn it back on, I say, "Hey Siri, play."

This worked fine for more than a year, but recently, when I tell Siri to play, it says "Sorry I'm unable to resume, please try again" then, after a brief pause, puts the radio back on anyway.

Any idea what changed and, more importantly, is there a better phrase I can use to resume listening without this annoying error?
