Unlock the Rotation:

The location of your keyboard is within respect to the 90-degree rotation of your screen. So, unlock the rotation, and then all would work as desired. Find more on this here: Rotate the Screen on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support.

Note: Some applications do not allow for Rotation.

I unlocked my iPhone , so I could rotate my keyboard, but it still doesn’t work when texting, with an iPhone 12. Is there another way to do this? It’s easier for me to text if I have it in the landscape mode vice the portrait mode.

If you have opened the Messages app and you turn the device to landscape mode and it will not turn, then go back to portrait, then swipe down from the upper right corner of the screen to bring up Control Center. Check the orientation lock to make sure it is not on. It is the icon with the circular arrow around a small padlock. When the background is white and the lock is red, it is locked to prevent that type of rotation. Tap on it to unlock, then you should be able to rotate the screen to landscape.

Thank you, still didn’t work though. My previous iPhones did this automatically, but this POS 12 no worky!!! I have a lot of issues with this phone, I work nights for example & right out of the blue, it will call various people in the middle of the night, even laying on my desk! Sleeping bosses & spouses aren’t too happy when this happens! Maybe the 13,14, 15, or 16 will be better. Shoulda kept my 7!

I'm sorry that is happening. You can use the Get Support link at the top of the page here and contact Apple Support. If you have an Apple Store close by, you can make a Genius Bar appointment for them to examine your device. Apple will explain your options from there. I've never experienced my iPhone calling people on its own, so you should be able to get that fixed. I have had all versions of the phone since the first one too. My iPhone 12 Pro never behaved like that, and neither does my iPhone 13 Pro. There could be a hardware error if you are unable to put the device into landscape mode, and Apple can address that.
