I have seen a few references to this, but I don’t see this on my ipad settings after iOS 15, but am having the same issue. I also can click load content, but don’t want to do that on each and every email. Is there an easier option?

This didn't help, this looks like an answer if you have this issue on mac. But I had the problem my iPhone.

That's right I said 'had', because today while opening an email, I got a privacy protection message asking me if I wanted to activate this option. After doing that the images in an email load again.

Somehow this message didn't came up in the first 2 days after the update to iOS15.

I have the opposite issue. I've always kept show images off for security. Then I'd click the button on an individual email to show images from companies I trust. But now the images are on by default. I want to choose again which images to show. The preference settings are no longer there in Mail Settings or Privacy Settings in iOS 15. When I do a search in the settings for Images an option for Mail shows but is unclickable. In addition, there's a new setting that says no information is shared but I don't trust that. Please tell me how to toggle "show images" to off. Thank you

Hi robby1983,

Welcome to the Apple Community.

Seems you may need to check the Mail settings:

With a "Mail" window open

click on "Mail" in the top menu bar

choose "Preferences" from the drop-down menu that opens

In the small window that opens:

Click on "Viewing" at the top

and

... if unticked ...click the blank-square beside ..... "Load remote content in messages".

Hope that works for you :-)

Or you can download the book in the Books app on your phone.

Informal support: This user-to-user forum, https://discussions.apple.com , where users can help each other with minimal Apple supervision or participation.

Apple’s formal support can be reached several ways:

  • Click on “Get Support” at the top of any page in the forum
  • Go to Apple Support

Note that both of the above have options to receive a callback or chat

About the only communications method not used by Apple support is inbound email, probably because the volume would be overwhelming, and separating the wheat from the chaff (or, to us engineers, a poor signal to noise ratio) would be almost impossible.

Hi JerryKane,

Welcome to the Apple Community.

You might want to try the Privacy settings.

(ie: Try off if its on / on if its off

Then check if you get the button to turn on / off images at the top, in a particular e-mail.

Hi Keith7774

Try the opposite setting to the one set on your iPhone:

Settings  > Mail > Privacy Protection. turn on (prevents senders from seeing if you’ve opened the email they sent you.)

or turn off

If you have a Mac you don’t need a virus checker; all it does is slow down your Mac. As to VPN:

Something to think about→Don't use VPN services. · GitHub

There are two legitimate purposes for using VPN:

  • To allow access to a private network such as a school or business when you are not on site.
  • To allow access outside of a country with a repressive government that has restricted Internet access. (This has suddenly become more important)

Any other use is risky, and can lead to problems like the one discussed in this thread. VPN disguises your location by making you appear to be somewhere else in the world. But you usually can’t control that “somewhere else”, and if it is in a location that an app isn’t approved for the app won’t work. Plus the fact that the provider of the VPN knows everything about you and your location, as well as what sites you access through the VPN. So you are totally dependent on the VPN provider’s honesty. As a start, if the VPN is free, DON’T USE IT. The provider has to make money somehow, and if you aren’t paying them then they are selling your private data to make money. But even those that charge can’t necessarily be trusted. For example, a few years ago Avast was caught selling user browsing data. They claim they have stopped doing so.

You don’t really need VPN when using public Wi-Fi, because all communications between your device and the servers it accesses are end-to-end encrypted.

If you want VPN for privacy about the sites you visit, that’s not a good choice as discussed; instead you should download and use the TOR browser.

With iOS 15.2 for iOS/iPadOS and MacOS Monterey 12.2 and later Apple now has iCloud+ Private Relay, which is like a super VPN, except that it doesn't spy on you→About iCloud Private Relay - Apple Support

Thank you Jerry Kane,

Seems that Privacy setting is the one in this Apple Support article,

Use Mail Privacy Protection on iPhone

https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/iphone/iphf084865c7/15.0/ios/15.0

Says

"When you turn it on, it hides your IP address so senders can’t link it to your other online activity or determine your location. It also prevents senders from seeing if you’ve opened the email they sent you."

All the best :-)
