"To open this spreadsheet, you'll need the latest version of Numbers."

Hi - when trying to open a certain Numbers file on my Mac (Catalina), I’m getting a “To open this spreadsheet, you’ll need the latest version of Numbers” error box that never used to pop up 1-2 weeks ago. Other threads mention that one culprit for this is opening the file in iCloud.com in the latest version of Numbers. However, in my case, there are other Numbers files I’ve opened recently via iCloud.com that still open just fine on my Mac. It only seems to be this one particular file (which happens to be password-protected), the contents of which havn’t changed much in the last 2 weeks (it’s not like I started using any Monterey-only features on the iCloud.com version in the last 2 weeks). Any suggestions?

The document that caused this problem was a "shared sheet". After disabling "sharing" for that document, the update notification went away. The problem is known by Apple (iWorks team).

Same here for a few days. If existing spreadsheets are edited I get an update message.

If you choose "go to Appstore" there is no update available.

With choice : "Not now" the update message remains.

Editing the spreadsheet is only possible via iCloud (online).

Creating a new spreadsheet, saving it and then editing it does not give an update message.

Certainly this has to be a bug or a mistake. I can't imagine Apple would force customers to upgrade from Catalina just to open a spreadsheet that worked just fine 1 week ago. Curious if there is a temporary fix until Apple solves this problem.

The problem is also present if the document is in a shared folder !

The doc I'm experiencing this with isn't in a shared folder either. It is just a password protected doc. Anyone know of a fix?

Still an issue after the latest updates for Catalina 10.15.7. Pretty ridiculous to not be able to open spreadsheets from a version of Numbers that came with an OS released only 2 years ago.
