No sound is coming through in my right ear pod

The case and the pods have been recharging for hours. The case light is orange (when case is open the light flickers and when it is closed the light goes off). I have cleaned inside case contact points with contact cleaner, taken the rubber ear grommet out to see if the pod is not sitting in the case correctly for the charging connection. The other thing thats not happening is that the notification on the phone showing the charge for case and two pods (as seen in the Apple how to description) is not coming up. Is this a upgrade software issue?

I've only had my pods for about a year, maybe 18 months. I do use them most days.
