My son is only 12 and Apple won't allow him to have an account unless he's 13. We've always used mine and just got new phones and now it's sharing EVERYTHING!
Setup an Apple ID for a child => Create an Apple ID for your child - Apple Support
He can be of any age and get an Apple ID (this website will guide you, https://support.apple.com/families-and-kids).
As you're using the same Apple ID, it will share everything. You can probably sign out of iCloud on his device or turn off most features, but if enabled, he will again have access to everything that is yours.

You shouldn't share your Apple ID.
Apple ID is not meant to be shared, and if you do that's the problem you are getting now.
The right way to share your apps, books and music purchases, read here => Set up Family Sharing - Apple Support
Restore your child's iPhone to factory settings => Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
Use this link for your child => Create an Apple ID for your child - Apple Support
Are you using the same Apple ID? Each user should have their own ID on their own devices.

You can if you stop sharing your Apple ID.
I shared my AppleId (Family Sharing) before our new iPhones and he didn't see my texts or photos. Now, with the new phone some setting has changed and he's them.
Thanks; figured it out with all your help! He did have his own ID that we must have created last time. I was able to reset his password and log into his account. Thanks for the help!
You're welcome.
