FaceTime Video + Screen Recording - Audio doesn't get recorded

Using the latest iOS 15.0.2 on iPhone 12 Pro Max.

While doing a FaceTime Video, started the 'Screen Recording' along with 'Microphone On' option and the FaceTime Video gets recorded and saved but absolutely no audio when played back.

Tried the same 'Screen Recording' without any calls and with 'Microphone On' option - records the audio fine.

There must be a some issue while doing a FaceTime Video with Screen Recording', Audio never gets recorded, tried multiple times...

Please let me know if anyone else is facing this issue or Apple Software has some bug or I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks!

Hi manishki,

We understand you have questions about FaceTime and Screen Recording. We're happy to offer up some clarification for you.

To start, this is not an issue with the software and you're absolutely not doing anything wrong. This is by design.

From a legal standpoint, Apple has to design their software to comply with laws and regulations in regions around the world. Because phone call recording in almost all countries requires consent from all parties and can easily be abused, Apple does not include any sort of call recording options in their software. Now since FaceTime is technically a "phone call" they specifically design Screen Recording to comply with that. If you use Screen Recording while on a normal phone call or a FaceTime call, it will record whatever you're doing on the screen, but there will be no audio.

Aside from that there are other instances where Screen Recording will not record audio as well. This will be any time the audio is protected under a copyright, so if you're doing a Screen Recording of a game, or a movie for example, it will capture video of what you're doing but there will be no audio.

Record the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Hope this helps clear things up. Cheers!
