Brand new Mac takes time to open Apps/ Shut down

My MacBook Pro M1 is brand new but I've been experiencing some lagging when I tend to shut it down or open up some apps. It's not like it has a bug and it eventually does the task but it takes longer than I expect. It took about 2 minutes for it to shut down after I clicked on shut down key. Is this normal? I thought it should run pretty smoothly with the M1 chip.
